Jesus gradually gave the Samaritan woman WHAT she is READY for.
So what did Jesus gave the Samaritan woman when asked for the living water? (vv15-16). So instead of giving her the “living water” right away…
· He tells her first to get her husband
· And to make her realize that Jesus knows all about her life!
Because her spiritual interest was already aroused, she already wanted to receive the “living water”, but did she really understand what Jesus was talking about? So Jesus saw the need to slow her down first and provide the proper understanding that…
· She needed to put her faith in Him as the Messiah
· And that He needed to provide first the evidence that He is the Messiah
* 1 Corinto 3:1-3, MBB
Here’s the lesson in Personal Evangelism:
- Most people don’t realize what they need first- to recognize their sinfulness and need for repentance and forgiveness before accepting Jesus as their Savior.
- Therefore, it is very important to present the Gospel in a very simple manner that’s easy to understand, and never choke them with very deep spiritual truths.
Jesus never judged nor condemned the Samaritan woman for what she is!
So how did JESUS dealt with the woman? (vv17-18) TAKE NOTE! Jesus could have judged her or dwelt on her being an adulteress, but he never did! Remember this—He came to save the world, not to condemn it.
* Juan 12:46-47, MBB
Ganun din ang utos ng Diyos kay Pablo, at maging sa bawat isa sa natin! – 2 Corinto 5:18-20, MBB
Lessons:
- When talking to people about the Gospel and while we preach about the seriousness of sin and its penalty- our primary purpose in evangelism is not to judge them of their sins but let them know that Jesus loves them and is able to forgive and save them from the penalty of their sins.
- Our focus is to inform people of the forgiveness that God offers if they truly repent and turn away from their sins.
- God seeks reconciliation with sinners and ours is a ministry of reconciling people back to God.
Jesus asked the Samaritan woman to focus on Him and on to what He is saying.
How did Jesus focused on the min issue? (vv19-24) The Samaritan woman tried to turn the subject away from the living water that Jesus is offering to where one should go to worship God. BUT Jesus effectively turned their conversation back to the original subject of who He is and what He offers. Let’s go back to verse 10!
Lesson:
- ALWAYS STICK TO YOUR OBJECTIVE when sharing then Gospel.
Establish a common interest first and avoid going too fast! Then as you move from common interest to stimulate their spiritual interest.
– Take one step at a time
– Do not go on until agreement at each step has occurred.- NOTE: if your objective is simply to obtain consent for a home Bible study, avoid getting into a detailed discussion at first encounter with people
Jesus ultimately told the woman that He is the Messiah!
After Jesus had already laid everything, He finally told the woman His identity, I am the Messiah! (vv25-26) Our calling! Marcos 16:15-16, MBB
Lessons:
- Stress the Gospel’s main message, to help them understand their sinfulness and need of salvation.
- Ultimately, confront them directly with the invitation to accept Jesus Christ as their Savior.
- Also have the primary objective of encouraging them to study the Bible more.
